Terms of Service
Last updated: October 4, 2026
Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Beacon, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the service. We may update these terms from time to time, and your continued use of Beacon constitutes acceptance of any changes.
Service Description
Beacon is a campground availability monitoring service operated by Beacon Outdoors LLC, a Texas limited liability company. We scan publicly available data on Recreation.gov and other reservation platforms and notify you when campsites matching your criteria become available. Beacon does not guarantee that you will be able to book a campsite, as availability is subject to change and other users may book sites before you.
User Accounts
You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to:
- Use a valid email address that you have access to
- Keep your password secure and not share it with others
- Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account
- Not create multiple accounts to circumvent plan limits
Subscriptions and Billing
Beacon offers free and paid subscription plans. By subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to pay the applicable fees. Key billing terms:
- Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, depending on your selection
- Automatic renewal: paid plans automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged, until you cancel. The recurring amount and interval are shown at checkout before you confirm.
- How to cancel: you may cancel anytime from your account billing settings or the Stripe billing portal; cancellation stops the next renewal and takes effect at the end of the current period.
- When upgrading mid-cycle, charges are prorated
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis; contact support for assistance
- All payments are processed securely through Stripe
Text Message (SMS) Alerts
Beacon Alerts is an optional text message program run by Beacon Outdoors LLC. If you check the box to receive text alerts in your account settings or on a campground page, you agree to receive recurring automated text messages from Beacon Outdoors LLC at your mobile number, telling you when campsites open at campgrounds you have turned text alerts on for. Besides those alerts, we text you only a one-time code to confirm your number and messages about the program itself, such as a sign-up confirmation or a reply to HELP. We do not send marketing by text. Consent is not a condition of purchase.
- Who can join: text alerts are included with every paid plan (Starter, Pro and Unlimited). To join, add a US mobile number in your account settings, check the box to agree to text alerts, and confirm the number with the one-time code we text you.
- Message frequency varies. It depends on how often campsites open at the campgrounds you watch. We limit how often we text you, so some openings will not produce a text.
- Message and data rates may apply. Your mobile carrier's normal messaging rates apply to texts you receive from us and send to us.
- To cancel: reply STOP to any message. You can also remove your number in your account settings, turn off text alerts for a campground on your dashboard, or ask us to stop by email at support@beacon.camp. After you opt out, you may receive one message confirming it, and we will not text you again unless you opt back in.
- To opt back in after replying STOP, reply START, then turn text alerts back on for each campground on your dashboard.
- For help: reply HELP to any message, or email support@beacon.camp.
- Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Texts can arrive late or not at all, so do not rely on text alerts alone.
- Your consent to receive texts is given to Beacon Outdoors LLC only. It is not transferred to anyone else, including if these Terms are assigned as described under Assignment below.
Participation in Beacon Alerts is subject to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Beacon for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to access, tamper with, or use non-public areas of the service
- Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to interact with Beacon beyond the provided API
- Resell, redistribute, or sublicense access to Beacon
- Abuse the alert system to harass or spam others
Disclaimer
Beacon is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Recreation.gov, the U.S. Department of the Interior, or any government agency. We provide availability alerts based on publicly accessible data. We do not control campground availability, pricing, or booking systems. Information provided by Beacon may occasionally be delayed or inaccurate.
Limitation of Liability
The Beacon service is provided by Beacon Outdoors LLC "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Beacon shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Beacon in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these terms or engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, is harmful to the service or other users. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deletion is scheduled seven days ahead, and you can cancel it yourself at any point in that window; after that it is permanent and cannot be undone. Any active subscription is cancelled when you request deletion, so you are not charged again. Upon termination, your right to use Beacon ceases immediately, though provisions that by their nature should survive (such as limitation of liability) will remain in effect.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms, and our rights and obligations under them, to an affiliate or to a successor entity in connection with a reorganization, a transfer of the business or its assets, a merger, or a sale — including a transfer of the Beacon business to another company under common ownership. If we do, your subscription continues on the same terms, at the same price, for the period you have already paid, and we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice on Beacon before the transfer takes effect. These Terms bind and benefit each party's permitted successors and assigns.
Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to Beacon or these Terms shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Lubbock County, Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice on Beacon. Your continued use of the service after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
